CDC Sum Causes of Death
This table, from the CDC, includes data from 2/1/2020 to 4/25/2020 for all deaths in the United States due to pneumonia, influenza or Covid-19. The total number of deaths from all causes equals 719,438. The total number of influenza deaths equals 5,846. The total number of pneumonia deaths equals 64,382. The total number of Covid-19 deaths equals 37,308. Covid-19 deaths equal less than 5.2% of all deaths, and less than half the number of deaths due to pneumonia.
This table might have a short lag of 1-2 weeks; however, it certainly doesn't look like Covid-19 has significantly altered deaths in the United States compared to the average for the previous two years. We are still only at 97% of the average for deaths since the beginning of February. We might get a little over 100% in a week or two but flu/pneumonia was leading Covid-19 until mid-April and is still double that number for the entire three month period.
